Types of Roundabouts

Mini Roundabout

Painted circle on the road. Same rules apply. Give way to traffic from the right. You can drive over the circle if needed.

Standard Roundabout

Raised island in the centre with one lane of traffic circulating. Most common type.

Multi-lane Roundabout

Two or more lanes on the roundabout itself. Follow road markings and get in the correct lane on approach.

Roundabout Lane Positions

This diagram shows the correct position and route for each exit direction.

Lane Selection

Turning left (1st exit)

• Approach in the left lane
• Signal left on approach
• Keep to the left on the roundabout
• Continue signalling left to leave

Going straight ahead (2nd exit)

• Approach in the left lane (unless road markings say otherwise)
• No signal on approach
• Keep to the left on the roundabout
• Signal left after passing the exit before yours

Turning right (3rd exit or later)

• Approach in the right lane
• Signal right on approach
• Keep to the right on the roundabout
• Signal left after passing the exit before yours and move to the left lane
• Check your left mirror before exiting
